Bomb or Bust? – The Body Shop’s Seaweed Skin Care Line

KDBBeauty-SeaweedBomborBust

Hi everyone! Welcome back to another edition of Bomb or Bust! This time we will be reviewing a skin care line. As I have stated many times before, I am not one to change up my skin care routine. Like ever. I have very sensitive, acne prone skin and when I find something that works for me, doesn’t break me out or irritate my skin, I stick with it! However, I had heard WAY too many good things about this line to pass it up. I am talking about The Body Shop’s Seaweed Skin Care Line. So I decided to give it a go. Is this product Bomb or Bust? Keep reading to find out!

To be honest, before a few months ago, I had never even considered purchasing skin care products at The Body Shop. I thought that they only sold delicious smelling hand creams and body lotions. Oh how wrong I was! I was first introduced to their skin care products when I was looking for tea tree oil. A few months ago, my skin started getting crazy, so I googled where I could purchase tea tree oil. The first thing that came up was The Body Shop Tea Tree Line. I started to go through, and I realized that there were a ton of different products with tea tree oil in them! I purchased the Tea Tree Scrub from that line, and immediately I was hooked. It wasn’t until my beloved scrub was out of stock that I started to look at different products. That is what lead me to the Seaweed Line. This is the description of the products on The Body Shop website:

The Body Shop® difference: Our wild-harvested seaweed comes from our fantastic Community Trade partner in Ireland, the Roaring Water Bay Seaweed Cooperative. Bladderwack is a type of brown seaweed that grows on the northern Atlantic and Baltic coasts of Europe. It has the largest trace mineral content of any known single source of seaweed and contains high levels of iodine, antioxidants and vitamin B. Because it is grown without chemicals or fertilizers, it is safe to use on any skin type or at any age to help control shine.

This line was made for combination skin (Which is technically what my skin is). When I read “helps control shine” my interests were peaked. I think started looking at all the different products and noticed their ‘mattifying day cream’ and I knew I had to purchase it! I started to read some reviews on the products that I was interested in purchasing (Which I always do – Especially skin care products since I am VERY picky with them). Other than the cream, the toner caught my eye as well. In all my years, I never really used toners part of my skin care routine; I didn’t think they really made that big of a difference. A few years ago, I bought an astringent (Which I read is LIKE a toner for super oily skin) from Clean & Clear and it made me break out SO badly, that I swore off toners then and there! But in the last couple months, I had started to think about maybe giving toners a second chance – If I could find a good one.

I had been thinking about buying the Tea Tree Toner with my next ‘scrub’ order, however, when I was ready to make said order, the scrub was out of stock! So once I started to read about the Seaweed line, I read some comparisons of the Tea Tree Toner and the Seaweed Toner and am I ever happy that I didn’t buy the Tea Tree one. I read reviews saying that the Tea Tree Toner was way too harsh and was drying out their skin. Most people recommended the Seaweed Toner as it was less harsh and perfect for combination skin. The reviews stated that all of the products helped to control shine, but did not amplify dry patches (Which is always a fear in the winter when my skin is as dry as being on a desert for a week with no water). So I made up my mind then and there – I would try this skin care line.

When I walked into my local Body Shop store, there was a promotion on that made everything in the store 40% off! So you know I didn’t leave with just the toner. I ended up purchasing the Mattifying Day Cream, the Toner, and the Deep Cleansing Facial Wash (I figured if I’m going to try it, and it is 40% off, might as well go big, right?!)

I have been using these products religiously for about a month now, so I figured it was time to give you my verdict on these products!

#Seaweed Deep Cleansing Facial Wash

The first thing I noticed was the smell of this wash. It is so floral and clean smelling, which I am not used to. It also foams when you are massaging it into your face, which I am definitely not used to (I have used Spectro Jel for YEARS which is for very sensitive skin. It doesn’t foam and it is scent free). When I am washing my face with this cleanser, it tingles a bit which I love (Because that always makes me feel like it’s working!) I didn’t give this product 5 out of 5 because after you massage it into your face for while, it gets kind of sticky (For lack of a better word) and no longer foamy. Maybe this is the products way of saying, “Okay lady, you have been massaging long enough!” but I really don’t like that feeling (Which is normally the time when I rinse my face).

#Seaweed Clarifying Toner

I was very nervous about trying this product for the first time. When I put it on my skin, it felt cool and tingly which I wasn’t sure about (But now I look forward to it). With that fact aside, I can’t even tell you how soft and clean my skin felt after these two steps. It was amazing! This product has the same scent as the cleanser, which I like, but if you are sensitive to scents, you might want to avoid this line. I really feel like this product is getting deep into my pores and cleaning them, which is something I definitely need. I gave this product a 4 because after I apply the toner to my face, my redness is really amplified. Just for a few minutes, but it is very noticeable. This isn’t the end of the world to me, seeing as I will usually be applying makeup quickly after, PLUS once the summer rolls around and I have a bit of a tan, I’m sure this won’t even be an issue.

#Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream

Just like the other products – I love the smell of this cream. The consistency is really nice as well, not too running or too thick. I tend to like thicker creams at night opposed to during the day, so I was quite happy with the consistency of this cream. Now, let’s get to this whole 3.5 star thing. Don’t get me wrong, I do like this cream. I have been using it every morning since I purchased it. However, I feel that some of the claims that people were making about this product were not entirely true (IN MY EYES). Yes – This cream does help keep my face matte, but not for as long as I was hoping. I didn’t expect this cream to magically keep my skin matte for like 12 hours or anything, but I was hoping that it would help for longer than a couple hours. I do appreciate the 2 extra hours that I don’t have to blot or powder my face, I was just hoping that it would last longer. Also, the claim that it is not supposed to make dry patches worse … Not true. I feel like after I put this cream on, my skin is so dry and tight. I know that that is how it works – Obviously to be matte, the lotion is going to try to make your skin dry – But some days, I actually have to add a different cream to some of the areas of my face. I am SO sure that after the winter, when my skin isn’t as dry, I am going to love this product!

All in all – The Body Shop Seaweed Skin Care Line is BOMB! Super happy that I took a risk and tried it out. These products together make my skin feel soft and clean without breaking me out at all! I will probably be buying some other products from this line, and I will keep you guys posted on how they are working. Has anyone else tried these products? What did you think of them? Do you like them as much as I do? If you have any suggestions of products like this, let me know! I may not try them out, but I love researching new products!

  1. I had a really bad reaction to this range when I first tried it. I think the hemp one and the vitamin e range were better for me even though I have combo skin too. It’s strange how everyone’s skin reacts differently to different products

    • Oh no! That’s too bad! I was terrified that I was going to break out, and I’m surprised I didn’t! I have the Vitamin E .. I think it’s called the Moisture Mask? It’s amazing! I love it for when my skin is extra dry. So strange how people’s skin can be so different! Thanks for reading! Xo
